BSNL, India\'s Top Telecom Provider, Deploys IP Unity for Mobile Voicemail

Carrier will migrate 300,000 subscribers to service delivery via IP Unity\'s HMS6000â„¢ platform

MILPITAS, Calif. — February 14, 2005— BSNL, the largest telecommunications provider and public agency in India, has announced it will deploy systems from enhanced services leader IP Unity in its wireline network in Baroda, India. The solution is implemented in a unique revenue-sharing mode with BSNL, and is planned for expansion in other areas of its nationwide network of wireline and cellular services.

BSNL is the largest telecom service provider in India and since the incorporation of its cellular division in 2000, BSNL has grown its total subscriber base dramatically, including over 5 million cellular users. The company is the national market leader in both wireline and wireless service delivery. BSNL aims to become the largest telecommunications company in South East Asia, and to implement innovative technologies for cost-effectively serving the massive consumer markets predominating in that region.

BSNL is using the IP Unity HMS6000 media/applications server platform to provision, bundle and customize voicemail and unified messaging services for its subscribers. The first service areas in the nationwide deployment are in the state of Gujarat, and the services are operational in Baroda.

"Our decision to deploy IP Unity's platform was based on our assessment of need to deliver robust service to the many subscribers of BSNL, with minimal disruption, while pursuing an aggressive course for feature-rich, IP-centric mobile messaging and multimedia services in the future," stated Ajoy Khanderia, CEO of ORG Telecom Ltd.

"BSNL has exceptional capabilities --and opportunities -- in the vast Indian telecom market," stated Dr. Arun Sobti, CEO and Chair of IP Unity. "They are moving aggressively to enhance their mix of value and innovation for customers, and we are pleased to be part of this upgrade and expansion program. The scale and diversity of their messaging-related applications take full advantage of the strengths and benefits of the HMS6000."
