IP Unity Delivers IMS Solutions with Key Functions for Fixed-Mobile Convergence
3GSM World Congress 2006, BARCELONA, SPAIN — February 13, 2006— IP Unity, the leader in carrier–grade media servers, application servers and real-time multimedia applications, has launched its next phase of an ambitious IMS delivery schedule. Following its initial selection as the Multimedia Resources Function (MRF) vendor to two top-tier carriers in Europe and Asia as well as multiple carrier trials, the company will now deliver a range of new functions to give customers and partners an even more powerful MRF, more rich-media functions, and tighter integration and compliance with SIP and VxML standards and components.
In 2005 IP Unity released its plan to provide the full Media Resource Player/Media Resource Controller Function, IMS developer tools and IMS compliance for its rich media applications. IP Unity is the MRF of choice in six carrier trials involving IMS, three of which are for Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) operators.
IP Unity’s 2006 IMS deliverables include full compliance with the IMS SIP interfaces and H.248 media server profile as defined by TISPAN for Fixed-Mobile Convergence operators and operators deploying IMS-like architectures. In addition, IP Unity plans to provide seamless interoperability between legacy TDM/IP networks, CDMA/GSM networks and new video applications like video sharing, video mail and video conferencing.
“IP Unity has set an aggressive pace in IMS delivery, and looks to continue that trend in 2006 with new milestones and FMC carrier engagements,” stated Philip Marshall, Vice President of Yankee Group's Wireless/Mobile Technologies. “The company is well-focused on key ‘best-of-breed’ functions that enable wireless and FMC operators to reap the full benefit of the emerging rich media services so demanded by today’s subscribers.”
Specific video advances will include
- Encoding and decoding of H.263/MPEG4/H.264 signals
- Advanced template control for multimedia mixing, record and playback of files in 3GP formats
- Video quality enhancements
- Expansion of VxML for standards-based video tagging and applications development, and
- Wireless support via 3G-324M gateway integration for real-time bidirectional streaming of video sessions between 3G-324M mobile phones and multiple IP-based mobile video applications.
Our successes last year in IMS trials of wireless/wireline voice messaging, unified messaging and conferencing enable us to now fully expand into IMS-enabled voice, data and video applications,” added IP Unity CTO Keith Bhatia. “There is significant operator demand for transparent delivery of these functions over FMC and IMS-like networks, and we are well-positioned to be the MRF provider of preference for commercial deployments in the early adopter markets of Asia and Europe. In addition, IP Unity will be delivering security and QOS features for our customers and partner deployment and scalability needs.”
IP Unity will exhibit at stand H073, Hall 2, Level 1 at 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona Spain, February 13-17, 2006.
