IP Unity to Demo Network-Based Color Ringback Tone Features for FMC Operators at 3GSM World Congress

3GSM World Congress 2006, BARCELONA, SPAIN — February 13, 2006— IP Unity, the leader in carrier–grade media servers, application servers and rich media applications, will demonstrate a range of network-based Mereon Color Ringback Tone Services for Fixed-Mobile Convergence (FMC) Operators at this week’s 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.

Since coming to market in 2003, color ringback tones (CRBT) have become a standard feature set in the personalized service packages of wireless service providers. CRBT is a custom music or audio clip, which the subscriber can select to play in place of the ringing tone as callers wait for the subscriber to answer his or her phone. Building on the popularity of custom ringtones and personalized greetings, CRBT has been adopted by 40% of wireless subscribers in certain markets, and now generate fees between $100 million and $1billion worldwide.

At 3GSM World Congress IP Unity will demonstrate a network-based solution for CRBT features. This network-based solution is independent of both handset and Subscriber Identity Modules (SIMs), and deliverable to any subscriber type (postpaid or prepaid, fixed or mobile) to meet the needs of wireless and Fixed-Mobile carriers in today’s evolving marketplace. IP Unity plans to make CRBT features generally available on its flagship Mereon™ 6000 Media Server during the second half of 2006. This delivery will be part of IP Unity’s ever-growing ‘One powerful platform, many services’ program, which includes media-rich messaging, conferencing, IVR, auto-attendant and prepaid services delivery.

  • The configurations for this feature set are highly flexible, including
  • Default CRBT: Subscriber can select a sample from the CRBT database as the default.
  • Caller and time-specific CRBT: Subscriber can set a unique CRBT for a specific calling party or specify by time segment.
  • Multiple easy-to-use provisioning interfaces: Subscribers can perform provisioning of the CRBT functions either via a mobile phone-based provisioning interface (Web, SMS, WAP, USSD) or through a voice portal using IVR.

IP Unity will exhibit at stand H73 in Hall 2, Level 1. Exhibit hours are 9:00 to 19:00, February 13 through February 15, 2006 and 9:00 to 17:00, February 16.

Also announced today in separate releases are IP Unity’s newest wave of IMS feature implementation for FMC operators and a new partnership between IP Unity and Carrius Technologies.
