IP Unity to Launch Beta Trials of MereonĀ® Video Conferencing

Customer demand triggers expanded videoconferencing features, precedes GA in 4Q 2006

Fall VON 2006, BOSTON, Mass — September 11, 2006— IP Unity, the leader in carrier–grade media
servers, application servers and real-time multimedia applications, is beginning an eight-week video
conferencing beta trial program with current users of its Mereon Conferencing and Mereon 6000
Media Server platforms. The company recently announced its newest rich media application, Mereon
Video Conferencing, which builds on the real-time Audio and Web conferencing and Collaboration IP
Unity provides. The company will now commence field trials with three current service provider and
enterprise customers in North America.

"These trials will confirm the value and interoperability of the video conferencing features we have
developed, and will allow us to test and stabilize new highly-demanded video capabilities that
customers are asking us to add to the delivery schedule," stated Keith Bhatia, IP Unity CTO and
Senior Vice President of Business Development. "We have created audio and video content recording,
video color ringback tones and click-to-conference feature sets to augment the substantial list of
functions for this application, and are gratified by customer interest in beta trials and solution
availability."

IP Unity anticipates beta trials of its Mereon Video Conferencing solution to run from late September
through mid-November, and general availability of the solution in December 2006.

Features included in beta testing will include

  • Multipoint conferencing with up to sixteen simultaneous video and 100 audio
    participants/conference
  • High-resolution participant display, and support for H.263 and MPEG4 clients
  • Automatic transcoding and rate matching between video streams
  • Extensive audio and web conferencing service features, e.g., easy-to-use moderator controls,
    multiple skin options, operator assistance
  • Moderator controls, e.g., in-conference paging, on-demand provisioning, whisper mode
  • Voice-activated switching with highlighted active speaker
  • Video and audio recording and playback

All IP Unity enterprise and service provider customers interested in Mereon Video Conferencing beta
